Preparation for the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Holy Communion

(for children aged 7 - 12)

Preparation for the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Holy Communion for children aged between 7 and 12 is undertaken within the context of Parish and is family based allowing parents to revisit their understanding of the sacraments from an adult perspective.

Our Sacrament Preparation Journey extends over twelve months starting in June/July of the year with two enquiry/information sessions.  These first two sessions allow the parents the opportunity to consider, prior to enrolment, the readiness of the child, and family, to commit to the preparation journey.

Our eight Sacrament preparation sessions are held monthly and presented to parents and children together.  Most sessions are offered twice to enable them to fit into busy family lives.  Our Saturday afternoon sessions begin at 4pm and finish in time to attend the 6pm Mass in St. Augustine’s Church and our Sunday sessions start at 10.15am, immediately after 9am Mass.

The sessions are held in Siena Hall (St. Augustine’s School grounds) and are run by our Sacrament Preparation Team made up of our Parish Priest, our Sacrament Co-ordinator, Administration Officer and the APRIM’s from St. Augustine’s and Holy Family Schools.

Around May or June the following year the children are Confirmed by the Archbishop and they then celebrate their First Holy Communion at one of the Parish Sunday Masses over the following weekends.

Reconciliation is not a Sacrament of Initiation; however, it is part of the initiation process as it is a requirement of the Church that Reconciliation is celebrated before First Holy Communion.  Consequently, it is part of the Sacrament Preparation Journey.

If you would like to make enquiries about the preparation for Sacraments for Primary School aged children in the Salisbury Parish, please contact our Sacrament Program Office on 8281 9603 or email salcath3@tpg.com.au

For Salisbury Parish residents whose children attend schools other than Catholic, we direct them through our Faith Formation Program for at least 12 months prior to enrolling for Sacrament Preparation.  Families in our Faith Formation Program meet twice per month on Sunday mornings after the 9am Mass at St. Augustine’s Church.  Please refer to the “Faith Formation” tab on this website for more detailed information.
